Sparkling Wines
Event Navigation
Sparkling Wine at The Met Hotel.
The demand for sparkling wines continues to grow. Although experts discuss a possible slowdown in the near future, their global market is expected to have a compound annual growth rate of 4.48% (CAGR 2024 – 2028).
As a result of this global thirst for bubbles, today, sparkling wines are produced almost everywhere on the planet, from Devonshire to… Tierra del Fuego!
Clearly, the queen is Champagne, which, however, accounts for only 15% of the sparkling wines produced worldwide. Famous and popular sparkling wines are also produced in other regions of France, such as A.O.C. Crémant d’Alsace, Crémant de Bourgogne, Clairette de Die Loire sparkling, Alsace and Burgundy Crémant.
Italy produces easily digestible Prosecco, Moscato d’ Asti and exuberant Franciacorta. Also of interest are the well-known ones from the region of Penedès in Spain.
The demand for sparkling wines is also increasing in Greece. Winemakers respond with aromatic, pleasant wines with bubbles and affordable price, wanting to build a lasting relationship with their audience.
Champagne, Prosecco, Moscato d’ Asti, Cava…
Zitsa, Rhodes, Amyndeon, Mantineia, Limnos… Debina, Athiri, Vidiano, Moschofilero, Moschato, Xinomavro, Agiorgitiko….
Traditional method and Cuve Close.
Numbers and global trends in consumption.
On Wednesday 31 January 2024, at 20.00, at our next meeting we will learn everything about “Sparkling wines”, from grapes and production methods to ways of consumption.
Guided by the chemist-oenologist-wine journalist Maria Netsika, we will taste -blindly as always- Greek and foreign bubbles, looking for the keys to the ever-increasing interest of consumers worldwide.
With us we will have Stellios Boutaris and oenologist Antonis Kioseoglou from Ktima Kir Yianni.
At the end of the meeting we will cut our vasilopita (New Year’s cake), which will highlight the lucky winners of the year who will win a magnum bottle.
As there is a limited number of participants in our meetings, reservation is required (for both visitors and members). Members are kindly requested to confirm their position by Wednesday 24 January 2024.
The meetings of the Wine Club THESSALONIKI ’96 take place in the halls of The Met Hotel (48, 26th October Street, tel. 2310 017000).
